We’ve been spending a lot more time in the barn in the past two months as we have moved does and their kids through. Today we noticed something we haven’t seen in the five years that we have had does and kids there: a list of names.
For many decades this large building was the milking barn. Jess’ grandfather, “Scoop” McKinney, milked cows in the barn twice daily. Scoop died in 1996 in his 80s, but he had stopped farming many years before that.
The list of names – Lulu, Reba, Claire, and others – are written in pencil on the wall by Scoop, or perhaps by his wife, Esther. We love this window to the past life of the farm.
