In 2010, we added a small flock of layer hens to our farm. We have an assortment of red sex-link, black sex-link, barred rock, Rhode Island reds, and silver-laced-wing Wyandottes. The rooster that struts around them is a barred rock as well.
Our hens produced beautiful brown eggs all winter and we now offer these to Moon on the Meadow CSA customers. Our eggs are also used in cupcakes made by Back Door Bakery, a vendor at the Lawrence Farmers Market.
This year we plan to add more birds to our flock to make eggs more available to farmers market customers.
